What is Gritz n' Gravy?
Gritz n' Gravy is Adult Illustrative, Urban Fantasy. It’s Pop Art in a Hip Hop culture. It’s where Black Heavy Metal meets Vibe Magazine. Where King Kong meets Godzilla, Players meets Star Wars, and Jet Magazine meets Shonen Jump.
Some would say that it’s just an overblown version of a black comic book. But that’s like saying rap is hip hop. Rap is something done inside hip hop, and not something that’s done inside of rap. Hip hop is cultural. In other words, it’s “Blanga”, Aka “Black Manga, but our trademark title is Urban Fantasy.
Steven Barnes, Creator and Author of the character Aubrey knight, is Urban Fantasy. Leslie-Ann Banks, Author of “Dominion”, would definitely be described as Urban Fantasy. Blade would be considered Urban Fantasy. The Matrix is Urban Fantasy. And whether Aaron McGruder may or may not describe The Boondocks as Urban Fantasy I would, both the comic strip, and animated feature. Hell…even the hated double bill of Pluto Nash, and Leonard Part 6, are considered Urban Fantasy....God forbid. Fat Albert, Bebe’s Kid’s, and Static Shock all make the list, as Urban Fantasy. Both Star Wars movies would have made the list, if Billy Dee Williams or Samuel L. Jackson were in the movie just a little longer.
Who is Gritz n' Gravy for? If you’ve ever watched; G.I. Joe, Star Blazers, Conan the Barbarian, Beowulf, Lost in Space, Treasure Island, Transformers, or Lord of the Rings…Gritz n' Gravy is for you, If you ever watched; Dragon Balls Z, Star Trek, The Three Stooges, Twilight Zone, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, and to be obvious, Lost, then Gritz n' Gravy is for you. Gritz n' Gravy isn’t just illustrations and stories its interviews and introductions. In a world where we watch a movie from Disney in all of its miracle and high tech animation, we never ask who made it. Gritz n' gravy is dedicated to the introduction of all unsung heroes of the fantasy art business. You’d be surprised how many of them are of color.
So in short Gritz n' Gravy is for the widening of the eyes, mind, and soul. Enjoy.
