History: Not much is known about Matrix’s past until he was recruited by the Polaris Syndicate as a covert operative at the age of 15. It was during this period of his life that he met fellow operative Isis. Some years later they married and had a child named Ishtar.
During the Corp War, Matrix rose through the ranks, eventually achieving the rank of Major. After the Corp War ended, he joined the Hegemony’s intelligence branch called EYES. The stress and long periods of time he spent on covert assignments took its toll on his marriage and eventually Isis and Matrix were divorced.
His time with EYES provided him with many contacts among the alien races, but over time he began to discover that much of the intelligence information he had been gathering was being subverted and used to the advantage of corrupt, power hungry corporations. When he reported the situation to his superiors his reports were covered up. So he began a covert war against any corrupt corporations he crossed paths with. For three years he transferred funds and spread misinformation, slowly destroying the corrupt corporations. Eventually his actions came under suspicion and caught the attention of the Consulate Avatar. Matrix had prepared for this and fled Terran space before he could be arrested. A year passed and Matrix remained free, always staying a step ahead of his pursuers. The Consulate Avatar realized that making an enemy of Matrix was a dangerous situation, and that his knowledge and skills might be sought by enemies of the Terran Alliance. Coupled with the fact that there was no evidence to convict with, a deal had to be made to bring Matrix back into the fold.
The Consulate Avatar, through Greggor Tyson, CEO of Hazardous Action Corp, and Matrix’s former commanding officer during the Corp War made contact with Matrix. In exchange for discontinuing his attacks on the corporations, the CEOs of the corrupt corps would be removed as well as key EYES officers who were involved in suppressing Matrix’s reports. Greggor pleaded with Matrix to take the deal, adding that if he turned the deal away the Consulate Avatar would be forced to sanction his assignation. Matrix took the deal but decided not to return to the Hegemony. Instead with the suggestion from Greggor he started a HAC franchise. He received some extra concessions in the deal with the Consulate Avatar, one of them, Ishtar’s release from her contract with the Hegemony. She then joined her father’s HAC team called the Cadre.
