A Farewell to Sidney
By Sky Owens

In the earlier part of this year, another creative soldier in the Maximum Overtime Army was lost to us.

If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sidney Michael Clark, you definitely would have considered yourself one of the lucky ones.

As a member of the inner circle of the Gritz-n-Gravy family, Sid was a creator and contributor, often sharing his literary projects and musings in the humorous and insightful way that he was well known for.

I’ve never known Sid to display anger or displeasure. His face was filled with that serene, almost laconic expression. Even in troubled times of his personal life, he often kept the negativity away from friends and family, yet sharing his easy going style laced with his subdued sense of humor.

Stricken by a debilitating illness, which soon overtook him, he never changed the demeanor of his subtle mirth. He showed that even in dark times, levity can still be found and that acceptance didn’t have to be a morbid process.

I remember the times when he and my friend Martin King gathered together to brainstorm and/or hang out, their conversations energized the surrounding throng, whether at the apartment or at the comic shop. Their humorous tirades invoked the participation to all who were within earshot. They switched roles of Devil’s advocate as well as ‘Good cop/bad cop’.

Sid had often come up with interesting scenarios, which were overlooked by the pedestrian mindset. He was willing to learn and also teach, considering that most people prefer to do one and rarely both.

Sidney Clark never hesitated to give a hand, sometimes exceeding his obligations by giving more than 100% to any undertaking.

Although he had a great love for writing and learning about art, there was no greater loves in his life than his Wife and daughter. He devoted his best efforts to them both. Sidney Michael Clark will be missed by his friends and colleagues.

But we know that he and Martin king are together, working on projects in the great beyond. They will both continue to be inspirational to those of us who are still Earthbound.

We of Gritz-n-Gravy will do our best to bring to light the unfinished, untold tales of our fallen comrades, the tales that were meant to be told.
