The Story Of La Habanera
It’s been said that a person’s strength flows through their appetite, and a person with a healthy appetite for food also has a healthy appetite for life.
As such, people are often recognized for their individual tastes. To keep their tastes from getting bland and boring, many introduce the ingredients of spice. Many can handle on their tongues the exotic or spicy, and there are those who enjoy the challenge of the extreme. More people are slowly coming to terms to the widely popular jalapeño pepper, but there are those rare few who know of, much less can handle the extremely hot pepper called ‘La Habanera’…
Many man, woman and child have tried and failed miserably at the foolhardy attempt, vowing never to sample the life altering sensation ever again.
This is the tale of La Habanera, not of the pepper, but of the young woman.
Guadalupe Herera came from an active family, being the youngest girl of four older brothers. Born within a long line of Lucha Dores, Mexican Masked wrestlers, Lupe chose not to hide her face.
It was rumored that her father ‘Diablo Rojo’ had the honor, as a boy, of fighting beside the Mexican legend, ‘Santos’, which set him and his family onto their righteous path. Later, in his travels, Diablo met an aspiring female wrestler from Watts California, Trisha Manning a.k.a. ‘Kenya Combatta’. They became fast friends, often fighting outside the ring against narrow-minded bigots and rednecks. As they traded techniques, they grew closer together and within a year’s time they married. Their love for each other did not interfere with their love for wrestling and they continued to travel throughout Mexico, Texas and Southern California.
