I’m a Philadelphia based artist who has pursued a freelance illustration career for over fifteen years, drawing comic books, illustrating book covers, designing for apparel, and developing animation treatments. My mission statement is to infuse a progressive Anime/Urban illustrative style for my clients, whether it’s the field of comics, print illustration, or fashion. Areas of expertise: pen and ink, watercolor, marker comps, digital inks, Photoshop, Illustrator.
Okay, okay...that did sound a little dry. I'm figuring the "viewers at home" might want to know just a tad more. Cools, I'm down with that. I love baggy jeans, hoodies and slip on Vans. I love hip hop and house music. Hamburgers, fried chicken and Pepsi are staples in my overweight diet menu. The Matrix is my favorite sci-fi/adventure movie and most important of all... I fucking love comics!
So needless to say I'm super excited to be back together with my old friends and studio mates to collabo on the Gritz N Gravy magazine. Evrything has come full circle. When I was just getting started in comics Paris Cullins invited me, Derrick Richardson, Martin King, Sky Owens along with some dude who's name I can't repeat, into a studio called Maximum Overtime. Those were great times... I remember laying out issues of Superboy, New Gods, and a issue of Animal Man for DC comics, issues of Speed Racer for Now Comics, Dreadstar for First comics and a stillborn project for Comico. I would eventually go on to Pencil issues of Alien3 for Dark Horse and Legion of Super-heroes and Blood Pack for DC. It amazes me the sheer volume of work we completed in a short period of time.
And now that Synergy is BACK.
We all dig comics, and working on other folks' toys from DC, Marvel, Image among others is great fun but nothing can compare to CREATING YOUR OWN. When Paris presented a new model for reaching the demographic we really wanted to reach I jumped at the chance. A urban, hip hop flavored MAGAZINE with comics geared to the SMOOTH, XXL, VIBE, KING and DUB crowd? Sounded like a no-brainer to me. So like a good team player I developed something I thought Paris would want...
That was SPACE STATION ORBITER: CLOUD 99. If it sounds like a anime title from Japan you're not misreading. That's DEFINITELY the vibe I was going for...
But Paris didn't want that. Paris wanted a project I developed a few years ago. A project with adult themes none of the major comic companies wanted to touch. At least not from a fledgling writer like myself. I'm sure Warren Ellis would have had zero problems pimping the concept, but I digress... In short, Paris wanted MARK NEMESIS: THE AVATAR. And I'm stoked to finally let folks see this work. Hints as to what the story is about can be found elsewhere on this site so by all means, settle in and look around. There's alot to see on the site. And when the Gritz n Gravy mag streets on the stands you're gonna be amazed!
